The W League 2026-27 season opener will break new ground on October 31, 2026, when the top-tier Japanese women’s basketball competition holds its opening games at Okinawa Suntory Arena alongside a Ryukyu Golden Kings men’s home fixture, according to press releases from PR TIMES.
Dual-Header at Okinawa Suntory Arena
For the first time, men’s and women’s professional basketball will share the exact same game day schedule at Okinawa Suntory Arena. Okinawa Arena Corporation structured this opening weekend as an independent business initiative designed to bring elite-level competition directly to local fans while generating new exchange and excitement through basketball. The event pits the Toyota Antelopes against the Toyota Boshoku Sunshine Rabbits, tipping off at 12:00 PM local time on Saturday, October 31, and continuing through Sunday, November 1, 2026.
Local Stars Return to the Domestic Stage
The opening fixtures feature Okinawa-born players competing at the highest level of Japanese club basketball. Shiori Anama of the Toyota Antelopes and Miku Iha of the Toyota Boshoku Sunshine Rabbits are both scheduled to take the court in their home prefecture. Organizers note that seeing homegrown talent excel on a national platform gives local children an opportunity to watch their idols up close.
