Seattle Seahawks owner Vinod Kholsa addressed public speculation on Dec. 3, 2024, denying any plans to relocate the NFL franchise. Kholsa stated on the social media platform X that the ownership group has never discussed or considered moving the team from Seattle.
Kholsa Rejects Relocation Speculation After Interview Remarks
The clarification followed public concern sparked by Kholsa’s recent interview with Axios. When asked whether he could guarantee the Seahawks would remain in Seattle long-term, Kholsa answered, “Never say never.” He added that nobody could predict whether the team would stay in Seattle 500 years into the future, while noting that the current management, coaching staff, and Lumen Field operations remain entirely stable.
That phrase quickly circulated online, fueling rumors of a potential franchise move. Seattle sports fans viewed the comments with heightened sensitivity due to historical precedent. Former owner Ken Baring attempted to relocate the Seahawks to Southern California in 1996 before the NFL intervened, which led to the sale of the team to Paul Allen. In 2008, the NBA’s Seattle SuperSonics relocated to Oklahoma City, leaving a lasting impact on local sports supporters.
Kholsa Family Buys Seahawks for Record Price
The Kholsa family purchased the Seahawks last month for $9.612 billion, marking the highest acquisition price in NFL history. Following the transaction, Kholsa stated that he respects the operational framework established by Paul and Jody Allen and intended to maintain continuity.
In the month following the sale, team operations have seen virtually no visible changes. The new owners have instead focused on building relationships with the personnel. Vinod Kholsa and his son, Neil Kholsa, traveled to Arizona and visited the locker room to celebrate a 31-7 victory over the Cardinals. Head coach Mike Macdonald described his early communication with the new ownership as being in the initial stages while noting that the process has gone well so far.
