Thirty-six delegates, including twenty-one athletes competing across five disciplines, represent Vietnam at the 5th Asian Para Games in Japan, according to official reports. The event provides athletes with a disability the platform to compete and secure qualification points for the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
Led by delegation head Nguyen Trong Ho, deputy director of the Vietnamese Ministry of Sports, the national contingent arrived early in Japan to complete classification assessments and training sessions. The advance preparation allowed teams to adjust to local climate and venue conditions following arrivals at facilities including the Mihama Sports Park Stadium.
Swimming Delegation Builds on Paris and Hangzhou Success
The seven-member national swimming squad enters the competition with established international contenders, featuring Le Tien Dat, Do Thanh Hai, and Vi Thi Hang. Le Tien Dat captured a gold medal in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke SB5 category at the 4th Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China, and will participate in the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
Do Thanh Hai reached the top 5 in finals at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. Vi Thi Hang joins the team following recognition at the 2025 Victory Cup and multiple gold medals at the 13th ASEAN Para Games. National swimming coaches oversee training sessions focused on water acclimatization and technical refinement.
Athletics Squad Targets Field Events in Japan
Seven athletes comprise the track and field roster, following an intensive training period at the National Sports Training Center in Ho Chi Minh City. Training regimens at the Mihama Sports Park Stadium focus on bridging the competitive gap with regional rivals, particularly in throwing disciplines.
Nguyen Thi Hai spearheads the field contingent, competing in the F57 javelin throw classification. Coaching staff monitor athlete workloads daily to ensure optimal physical conditioning ahead of official medal events.
