Injuries and exhaustion ultimately halted the championship ambitions of the Acton Vale Castors, ending their run in the Ligue de baseball majeur du Québec (LBMQ) finals against the Victoriaville Cactus.
Victoriaville Sweeps Acton Vale in PhysioExtra Cup Finals
The Acton Vale Castors reached the LBMQ championship series for a fourth season, falling in four straight games to their longtime rivals, the Victoriaville Cactus, in the Coupe PhysioExtra final. General manager Reinaldo Ramirez noted that cumulative fatigue and injuries caught up with the roster down the stretch, concluding a demanding postseason run that tested the team’s depth.
“I think we first have to give a tremendous amount of credit to the Victoriaville Cactus,” Ramirez said. “They did an exceptional job in the playoffs. Their run shows just how ready they were at the right time.”
Strong Regular Season Precedes Playoff Battle
Before the finals defeat, Acton Vale put together a dominant regular season campaign, finishing with 21 wins and 9 losses. That record captured first place in their division and second place in the overall LBMQ standings, trailing only the Coaticook Big Bill.
The path to the championship series required grueling postseason series. The Castors eliminated the Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Pirates in six games before outlasting the Montreal Jets in a hard-fought seven-game semifinal series.
Roster Stability and Winter Outlook for the Castors
Looking ahead to the offseason, team leadership intends to preserve the core of the roster rather than initiate a major rebuild. Ramirez expressed confidence in the group’s internal chemistry and foundation.
“Obviously we would have liked to finish with the championship, but I think we have to look at our season as a whole,” Ramirez said. “We still had an excellent year and I am extremely proud of our group. Our priority is to keep our core group of players.”
