Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner dominated men’s tennis in 2024 and 2025 by splitting eight Grand Slam titles evenly between them, but injuries in 2026 derailed their performance and raised questions about their consistency compared to tennis legends.
During their peak physical form in 2024 and 2025, Alcaraz and Sinner established an upper hand on the ATP Tour that drew frequent comparisons to the legendary Big Three of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer. However, physical setbacks altered the landscape of men’s tennis in 2026. Alcaraz was forced to miss both the French Open and Wimbledon due to a wrist injury, while Sinner missed the second half of the season because of a knee injury.
Victor Hanescu Examines the Era Differences
Victor Hanescu addressed the shifting standards of dominance in professional tennis during an interview with Ubitennis. Hanescu pointed out that stability remains the ultimate benchmark when assessing the careers of Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal.

“The main difference between the two eras lies in the stability,” Hanescu stated. “In a way, I understand Jannik and Carlos, because despite their youth, they had already won some important titles. Maybe they didn’t have the same goals, or maybe they lacked the ambition to win as many titles as the Big Three.”
Hanescu highlighted the era commanded by Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, and Andy Murray, noting that reaching a Grand Slam semifinal during their peak years proved nearly impossible for the rest of the tour. Together, the Big Three accumulated 61 Grand Slam titles.
Title Expectations and 2027 Outlook
Before the string of physical interruptions, it was expected that Alcaraz and Sinner would win a similar number of Grand Slam titles as the Big Three. The severity of their recent absences has introduced real questions about whether either player can reclaim the apex form they displayed in 2024 and 2025.

Despite the missed tournaments and lingering fitness questions, Alcaraz, Sinner, and Alexander Zverev still rank among the top favorites for Grand Slam titles in 2027. Early tournament losses for the younger generation carry different weight now than defeats suffered by Federer, Nadal, or Djokovic during the height of their respective careers.
