Free-agent wide receiver Tyreek Hill is expected to sign with a new team within the coming days, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Rosenhaus plans to open formal negotiations with several interested franchises this week following a turbulent stretch that saw Hill released by the Miami Dolphins in February.
Negotiations Open Following Miami Release
The veteran pass-catcher hit the open market after the Dolphins cut ties with him earlier this year to clear salary cap space. Hill suffered a severe knee injury in Week 4 that ended his campaign with a torn ACL and multiple ligament disruptions. Rosenhaus indicated that multiple teams have emerged as suitors as the eight-time Pro Bowler prepares to resume his career.
Kansas City Retains Interest in Reunion
Among the clubs monitoring Hill’s availability are the Kansas City Chiefs, the organization where Hill originally launched his NFL career in 2016. The Chiefs face an immediate shortage at wide receiver following injuries to key contributors. Tyquan Thornton suffered a left-ankle dislocation on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders, leaving him sidelined indefinitely, while Rashee Rice continues to battle a hamstring issue.
Hill Fills Gap Left by Injured Receivers
Before their respective injuries, Thornton and Rice served as Kansas City’s primary aerial weapons through the first four games, combining for 24 receptions, 409 yards, and three touchdowns. Over 10 NFL seasons, Hill has amassed 11,363 receiving yards and 83 touchdowns. His most productive individual campaign came in 2023 with Miami, where he led the league with 1,799 receiving yards, 13 touchdowns, and 83 first downs. His peak year with Kansas City occurred in 2018, totaling 1,479 yards and 12 scores.
Evaluating a Potential Kansas City Return
DAZN NFL writer Ana Gonzalez noted that a reunion with Kansas City makes logical sense given the team’s pressing need at wide receiver and Hill’s established chemistry with Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce. The trio previously powered consecutive Super Bowl appearances in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. At the same time, questions remain regarding Hill’s recovery timeline and current form after missing game action since September.
