Two professional basketball players died and a third was seriously injured early in a severe traffic accident on the highway in Dakar, Senegal. The crash occurred near the HLM health center when a Hyundai Elantra vehicle skidded off the road, overturned at the edge, and was split in two by the force of the impact, according to investigations by the Dakar central police station.
Route Trace and Identities of the Deceased
The accident happened as the vehicle traveled along the highway toward the Hann Bridge after coming from the Bop basketball court. Police investigators identified the deceased as Mouhamed Diouf, 27, and Momar Marigo, 29, who both died instantly from the impact.
According to reports from ASC Ville de Dakar and athletic coverage by Africa Top Sports, Diouf was a point guard who competed for the Ville de Dakar club, while Marigo played for US Gorée Basketball.
Driver Condition and Catastrophic Vehicle Damage
The driver of the vehicle, identified by police as 24-year-old Doudou Ndoye, was found unconscious at the scene and subsequently hospitalized. Ndoye plays basketball for the AS Douanes club, commonly known as Customs.
Authorities noted that the vehicle skidded near the social housing health post before leaving the roadway and suffering catastrophic structural damage.
