The 109th All Japan Koki Soft-Ball Baseball Tournament came to a swift conclusion for the Tomo Koki Club, which suffered an opening-round defeat after recording just a single hit in a five-inning mercy-rule loss to Aomori Prefecture representative Aomori Seahorse, note.com reported.
Opening Round Defeat at Grace Inn Maebashi Municipal Stadium
Playing at Grace Inn Maebashi Municipal Stadium under clear, rain-free skies, the 64 national representative teams gathered for the tournament’s opening ceremony on October 9. Tomo Koki Club faced a balanced Aomori Seahorse squad that capitalized early, jumping out to a five-run lead in the first inning, adding another run in the second, and scoring twice more in the fourth frame.
Facing a seven-run deficit in the top of the fifth inning with two outs and no runners on base, player-manager Kazuto avoided the final out by driving a double for the team’s only hit of the game. However, the subsequent batter was retired, sealing an 8-0 defeat in five innings under tournament mercy-rule regulations.
Supporters and Regional Turnout in Gunma
Despite the early exit, the team drew an unprecedented level of support from cheering sections traveling from Shizuoka Prefecture, Kanagawa Prefecture, Saitama, and Gunma Prefecture, alongside individual supporters making the trip from Niigata’s Sado Island and Kiryu. Following the match, manager Ando treated players to local ramen at Hashigoya, where discussions immediately shifted toward securing qualification for next year’s national tournament.
Tomo Koki Club must win its remaining three Tokyo league matches against Mitaka, Sazanka, and Tokyo Koki to earn an automatic berth in the next national competition. Meanwhile, the club’s Futures squad—competing in the Kanagawa-area senior division—prepares for its second autumn league match against the Mitaka Three Hawks, who enter the weekend with two wins.

Upcoming Tokyo League Schedule and Art Exhibition
The Futures team is scheduled to face the Mitaka Three Hawks at Chofu E-6 on Saturday, October 17, with first pitch set for 10:00 a.m. local time (UTC+9). In regional cultural events coinciding with the autumn sports calendar, artist Fukuyama from Shiga Prefecture opened an exhibition running from October 9 through October 12 in conjunction with the annual Otsu Festival.
