Tomáš Matonoha: From Mazda MX-5 to Royal Enfield and Camper Life

Actor and television personality Tomáš Matonoha is preparing to compete in the 14th season of the Czech dance competition StarDance, where he is partnered with Lenka Nora Návorková. Beyond his career in entertainment, Matonoha maintains a distinct interest in automotive travel, prioritizing comfort and utility over high-speed performance.

Matonoha’s Approach to Driving and Daily Travel

Known for his roles in the sitcom Comeback and the series Ulice, Matonoha has developed a driving style he describes as focused on relaxation and music. During his time as the moderator of the television show Taxík, he noted that he avoids excessive speed and rarely incurs traffic violations, having only been penalized for occasional parking infractions and one instance of speeding within city limits. Rather than acting as a competitive driver, he views his vehicles primarily as companions for his professional and personal journeys.

History with the Mazda MX-5 Roadster

Among his past vehicles, Matonoha utilized a second-generation Mazda MX-5, produced in 1999, as a primary work vehicle around 2013. The vehicle, known as the NB generation, was equipped with a 1.6-liter or 1.8-liter engine and rear-wheel drive. Matonoha opted for this roadster as a functional tool rather than a luxury item, valuing its reliability during his daily commutes and professional engagements.

Transition to Motorcycles for Urban Mobility

To navigate traffic congestion in Prague, Matonoha transitioned to two-wheeled transport, beginning with a 50cc scooter. After obtaining a full motorcycle license, he expanded his collection to include a Honda Monkey, which was subsequently stolen, prompting a temporary return to scooters. Currently, he commutes to his StarDance training sessions and filming locations on a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. This retro-styled roadster features a 647.95 cm³ air- and oil-cooled parallel-twin engine, producing approximately 47 horsepower and 52.3 Nm of torque. Matonoha utilizes the machine primarily for touring and leisure, favoring scenic routes over high-speed travel.

Commitment to Mobile Living in Fiat Ducato Campers

Matonoha’s primary automotive passion involves recreational travel in camper vans. He began by renting vehicles before purchasing his first motorhome nearly a decade ago. His preference lies in compact, versatile units based on the Fiat Ducato platform, typically measuring around six meters in length. He favors this size for its maneuverability on standard roads and ease of parking compared to larger recreational vehicles. These campers are outfitted with sleeping, cooking, and sanitary facilities, allowing him the flexibility to alter his travel plans spontaneously. While originally intended for family use, Matonoha frequently utilizes the vehicle for solo excursions.
