Tokai University dominates Hosei University with a 57-15 victory

Tokai takes early lead with two tries

Play began with handling errors and penalties for offenses including not releasing and high tackles, creating an early stalemate between the two squads. The breakthrough arrived in the 11th minute when Tokai capitalized on a penalty to launch a right-wing lineout drive. Lock Gaston Fonua and flanker Tupou Langi anchored both sides of the jumpers to provide the wedge, allowing the forward pack to rumble over for the opening five points.

Fonua struck again in the 17th minute, extending the advantage with a long-range gain following a sharp blindside dart from scrum-half Naoto Nakamura. By the 24th minute, Tokai had manufactured a third try through another rolling maul to stretch the scoreline to 19–0. Hosei resisted when 18-year-old winger Kohaku Suda capitalized on an opposition lineout fumble in the third minute to execute a try-saving tackle on the carrier’s back, generating a turnover penalty won by flanker Yu Kitamura to relieve early pressure.

Tokai forwards dominate the set-piece

Hosei struggled to contain Tokai’s dominant forward pack at the set-piece through the opening half and into the second period, entering halftime trailing 19–3. Hooking duties fell to Yuta Hanazawa, who stabilized the lineout throws and executed multiple direct hookings under severe scrum pressure. Hanazawa continued his defensive disruption into the second half, securing a turnover in enemy territory as his side trailed 33–8.

Tokai responded by asserting total control through their forwards after the interval, adding tries in the 3rd and 11th minutes of the second half. In the 18th minute, versatile fullback Akiari Uramoto chipped a precise grubber kick through the defensive line, allowing winger Renta Yamaguchi to chase and ground the ball while colliding with the fence. That spectacular scoring sequence originated directly from a penalty forced by the Tokai scrum.

Hosei scores late try after turnover

Hosei mounted a spirited fightback late in the contest after introducing replacement player Shinon Suzuki. In the 24th minute of the second half, Suzuki’s pack disrupted an opposition feed on a defensive scrum, successfully wheels-spinning the ball back to spark a turnover against a completely rotated Tokai front row.

Foregoing set-piece options, Hosei opted for tapped penalties to launch two consecutive phases near the line, culminating in captain and lock Shinjin Ueura burrowing over beside the ruck for the team’s second try to make it 43–15. Despite that late surge, Tokai’s physical power prevailed. Fonua completed a hat-trick from close-range pick-and-gos, adding two late tries to seal a 57–15 full-time scoreline.
