The European Club Cup for archery gets underway this weekend in Ruse, Bulgaria, where the men’s team from Stade Clermontois Archerie enters the tournament aiming for another podium finish after claiming the bronze medal last year.
Stade Clermontois Fields Strong Lineup Led by Olympic Medalist Thomas Chirault
Thirteen men’s teams and eight women’s formations take part in the 2026 edition of the competition. Under the direction of coach Florian Chienno, the club from the Auvergne region travels to Bulgaria with a deep roster anchored by Thomas Chirault. As a long-standing member of the French national team, Chirault brings a wealth of international experience to the club circuit, highlighted by his silver medal in the team event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Chirault is joined on the squad by Pablo Acma Gonzalez, Michaël Sanna, and Romain Viale. Viale arrives at the tournament in strong form following his recent selection to the France 2027 collective, a development squad preparing for the qualification cycle ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Defending Champions and Regional Rivals Shape the Ruse Field
Last year’s tournament title went to Spain’s Arqueros de Pozuelo, who return to Ruse to defend their crown. Stade Clermontois faces a demanding field that includes strong contingents from Nîmes, Sofia, and Minsk. Following the conclusion of the weekend fixtures in Bulgaria, the Clermontois squad turns its attention toward a busy international calendar featuring the European Games in Istanbul, Turkey, in June and the World Championships in Medellin, Colombia, in late September.
