TGL to launch third season Dec 27 and renews media rights with ESPN

The TGL indoor golf league will launch its third season on Sunday, December 27, 2026, at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, setting up a direct television showdown with the NFL for the second year.

The league confirmed its schedule opening alongside a multiyear media rights renewal with ESPN, announced on October 1. While neither the league nor the network disclosed the financial terms or exact duration of the new agreement, ESPN and ABC will remain the exclusive U.S. home for the team-based competition.

Opening on the Sunday after Christmas places the indoor circuit squarely in front of a massive sports audience, a strategy that yielded positive viewership returns during the league’s inaugural run. According to figures reported by Golfweek, the league’s opening broadcast against the NFL last season drew a 30% increase in viewership compared to its initial season average.

“The TGL has brought something truly new to the world of golf: the best players of the PGA Tour competing in a fast-paced team format designed for prime time, bringing fans closer to the action than ever before,” Rosalyn Durant, ESPN executive vice president of programming and acquisitions, said in a joint statement. Rufus Hack, TMRW Sports head of golf, added that ESPN had served as an ideal partner in uniting promotion, media coverage, and sports presentation.

Founded by Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and sports executive Mike McCarley under the umbrella of TMRW Sports, the TGL operates in 152 territories worldwide. In Europe, Sky Sports holds the broadcast rights and will continue airing the indoor championship for its third season.

League Viewership Increases Across Broadcasts and Digital Platforms

Television metrics from the league’s second season demonstrated broad growth across broadcasts and digital platforms. According to Golfweek data, the league reached 21.782 million total viewers during its second campaign, marking an 8% increase over the 20.215 million viewers who tuned in during the debut season.

Postseason viewership saw an even steeper climb. Playoff broadcasts averaged 618,000 viewers, up 42% from 434,000 the previous year. The most-watched event of the season was the March 24 final, in which the Los Angeles Golf Club defeated Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links Golf Club 9-2 before an average audience of 989,000 viewers on ESPN.

League officials and network executives noted that over 30% of the audience does not regularly follow professional golf on traditional tours, a demographic segment the competition aims to expand as it enters its third year.

Motor City Golf Club Joins with Brooks Koepka

The competitive field expands to seven franchises for the upcoming season with the addition of the Motor City Golf Club. Backed by Middle West Partners investors Michael Hamp, Peter Hamp, and Kevin Kelleher, the team secured five-time major champion Brooks Koepka as its marquee player.

The assignment marks Koepka’s debut in the indoor league. He was ineligible to compete during the first two seasons due to his contract with LIV Golf, which he left in January before returning to the PGA Tour. Residing in Jupiter, Florida, just minutes from the arena, Koepka holds nine PGA Tour victories alongside his five major titles: the 2017 and 2018 U.S. Opens and the PGA Championship in 2018, 2019, and 2023.

“Brooks has built his career on the ability to perform best when the stakes are highest,” investor Michael Hamp told Golf Post. Koepka added: “I have already watched TGL matches as a spectator and I can say they bring something completely new to the game. I can’t wait to compete with my teammates and bring a title to Detroit.”

Koepka joins a league field that includes defending champions Los Angeles Golf Club, Atlanta Drive GC, Boston Common Golf, Jupiter Links Golf Club, New York Golf Club, and The Bay Golf Club. Roster placements across the league remain subject to change, as Golf Digest reported that several contracts signed during the league’s launch carried two-year terms.

Prior to the men’s season opening, the new women’s indoor circuit, WTGL, featuring LPGA players, will run from November 8 through December 22 with broadcasts on ESPN, ABC, and ION, creating an uninterrupted winter schedule of team golf leading directly into the TGL launch on December 27.
