Arena Director Tanja Dik Rejects Derksen Claims
Tanja Dik, the 57-year-old director of the Johan Cruijff ArenA, has rejected claims made by television pundit Johan Derksen that she was the first woman to receive an unsolicited explicit photo from former Ajax director of football Marc Overmars, fcupdate.nl reported. Derksen asserted during a December 2023 broadcast of the talk show Vandaag Inside that Dik was the recipient of the imagery. Dik told the newspaper Het Parool that the allegation is entirely false.
The Shadow Of The Overmars Resignation
Marc Overmars resigned abruptly from his role at Ajax on Feb. 6, 2022, after disclosures revealed he had sent a series of inappropriate messages to multiple female colleagues over an extended period. While those investigations focused on incidents internal to the football club, Derksen’s televised claims nearly two years later dragged the stadium’s chief executive officer into the public controversy. Dik stated that no employee at the Johan Cruijff ArenA ever received such a photo, noting that the misconduct occurred strictly within Ajax.
Internal Fallout And Regrets Over Silence
Following the broadcast, Dik felt compelled to gather all female stadium employees and issue an internal email to explicitly debunk the rumor. She acknowledged that the situation required immediate clarification to protect workplace trust. At the time, advisors urged her to remain silent on the matter to avoid amplifying the claim. Reflecting on that advice, Dik told Het Parool that she regrets staying quiet, emphasizing that passivity contradicts her personality. She added that anyone who knows her professional standing never entertained the notion for a second.

Defending Workplace Safety On Public Platforms
Looking back at how the situation was handled, Dik maintained that she would approach the television appearance differently today. She stated that she would confront the allegations directly on air to protect female colleagues and advocate for professional safety. As a female executive leading a major venue, she stressed the importance of using public platforms to counter misconduct rather than allowing unchecked narratives to persist in sports media.
