WSG Tirol fell 2-1 at home to SV Ried in the eighth round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga, according to a match report from LAOLA1. The hosts took an early lead before defensive lapses and missed chances shifted the match.
Nikolai Baden Frederiksen strikes early before missed chances
WSG Tirol opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Nikolai Baden Frederiksen curled a free-kick around the defensive wall. “We talked about how the wall was set up and so I was able to pull the ball around the wall,” the Danish forward told Sky after the match, as reported by LAOLA1.
Despite the strong start, Frederiksen pointed to missed opportunities as a turning point in the fixture. “I think in many phases of the match we had control and worked out chances, but didn’t convert them,” Frederiksen said. “That is also my fault, I had several chances!”
Stefan Schwab penalty shifts momentum for SV Ried
The visiting side equalized in the 15th minute when Stefan Schwab converted from the penalty spot to make it 1-1. “The 1-1 was very important, after that we got into the game better and and scored the 2-1 lead,” Schwab said in an interview with LAOLA1.
SV Ried head coach Mario Despotovic echoed that assessment, identifying the spot-kick as the pivotal moment of the contest. “After we got the penalty, the game tipped in our side’s favor,” Despotovic said. Shortly before halftime, Pomer scored what proved to be the decisive goal to seal the 2-1 victory.
Philipp Semlic laments defensive lapses
WSG Tirol manager Philipp Semlic offered a candid evaluation of his team’s performance following the final whistle. “We did a lot of things well, but we didn’t do two things well in defense and therefore caught the goals,” Semlic said, noting that his side failed to finish their attacking sequences in the final third.
Despotovic praised his squad’s cohesion as they secured the away win. “I believe the team has found each other more and more,” the Ried manager said. “We will simply continue to quietly do our job and approach the next match positively.”
