Rosenheim Prepares for Its First Standalone Grappling Showcase
Rosenheim is set to host a grappling event as Summit Pro Grappling launches at the Ballhaus Rosenheim. Founded by Pound for Pound gym owner Dawid Masarczyk, the tournament aims to give regional athletes competitive opportunities without requiring long-distance travel to cities like Nuremberg or Vienna, with Masarczyk noting, Die nächsten Turniere sind halt weit weg, sei es Nürnberg oder Wien,
and adding, Da wollte ich einfach ein Turnier starten, damit unsere Anfänger und generell die Leute mehr Möglichkeiten haben, Erfahrung zu sammeln.
Grappling focuses entirely on positional control, throws, and submissions without strikes, drawing heavily from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu principles, which Masarczyk describes simply as eine Mischung zwischen Judo und Ringen
. Eine wichtige Grundlage bildet das Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, kurz BJJ.
Inside the Ballhaus Premiere Format and Schedule
The tournament schedule is split across two distinct blocks of competition on Saturday, October 24. White belts and less experienced competitors take the single central mat starting at 11:00 a.m. to test their skills in an amateur bracket. The evening session begins at 6:00 p.m., featuring higher belt divisions, an absolute division, and submission-only matches on the professional card.
Building a Self-Sustaining Combat Sports Ecosystem
Masarczyk created the event to solve a logistical hurdle for local martial artists who previously faced hours of transit to secure competitive bouts. By placing a professional-grade mat inside a non-traditional venue like the Ballhaus Rosenheim, organizers intend to draw curiosity from spectators who might otherwise never step foot inside a combat sports gym. The overarching goal, according to event leadership, is to build a self-sustaining local competitive ecosystem driven by the regional community itself, encapsulated by the motto Von der Szene – für die Szene
, which Masarczyk explains means Das soll widerspiegeln, dass wir den Sport vor allem bei uns in der Region weiterbringen wollen
.
Intergender Exhibition Sparks Debate Across the Local Scene
Organizers scheduled an exhibition match between a male and a female competitor to inject an entertainment element into the card. Masarczyk acknowledged that the intergender pairing drew some public debate from observers who interpreted the exhibition too strictly as a serious athletic test, noting, Es gab ein bisschen Gegenwind, weil manche das zu ernst genommen haben.
Event leadership defended the booking as a lighthearted showcase conceived directly by the two athletes who wanted to test their skills against one another for fun, with Masarczyk stating, Die zwei hatten die Idee und sind auf mich zugekommen. Ich fand das eine schöne Idee, einfach mal aus Spaß sich da zu messen.
Ballhaus Rosenheim Hosts Free Grappling Tournament
Grappling strictly excludes strikes such as punches and kicks. Athletes win by using throws, takedowns, and joint locks or chokeholds to force an opponent’s submission. The tournament is hosted at the Ballhaus Rosenheim, and spectator admission is entirely free of charge for anyone attending the venue. The event is organized by Dawid Masarczyk, who owns the Pound for Pound gym located in Rosenheim.
