Stanislav Cherchesov Praises Artyom Dzyuba’s Legacy in Russian Football
Russian football legend Artyom Dzyuba has left a mark in the sport, according to FC Akhmat Grozny manager Stanislav Cherchesov. Speaking to TASS, Cherchesov praised his former national team forward’s stellar career after Dzyuba announced his retirement from professional football while keeping the door open for media team appearances.
Career Tributes From Former National Team Manager
Cherchesov, who coached Dzyuba during his tenure leading the Russia national football team, offered high praise for the 38-year-old striker’s accomplishments. “You cannot describe Dzyuba in a couple of words; we worked together a lot,” Cherchesov told TASS. He added that the forward was always an important player in his squad and expressed gratitude for their collaboration, noting that Dzyuba’s career matched his ambitions.
Highlighting the sheer scale of the striker’s achievements, Cherchesov remarked that Dzyuba achieved everything he possibly could in the sport. “He left a mark in our football, rewrote many records,” Cherchesov said, concluding with a sign of deep respect: “I can only tip my hat to him.”
Dzyuba Ends Professional Career but Considers Media Teams
Dzyuba recently informed TASS that he has concluded his professional playing career. However, the veteran forward did not rule out lacing up his boots again to compete in the Russian Cup for one of the country’s prominent media teams.
The 38-year-old striker entered free agency after parting ways with FC Akron Togliatti in June following the conclusion of the season. Over a long and decorated career, Dzyuba emerged through the FC Spartak Moscow youth academy and represented a wide range of clubs, including FC Tomsk, FC Rostov, FC Arsenal Tula, Turkish side Adana Demirspor, FC Lokomotiv Moscow, and FC Zenit Saint Petersburg.
Dzyuba Holds All-Time Russian Goalscoring Records
Dzyuba’s legacy rests on a collection of domestic titles and all-time scoring records. During his tenure with Zenit, he captured four Russian Premier League championships, four Russian Super Cups, and two Russian Cups.
Statistical records place Dzyuba as the all-time leading goalscorer in Russian football history with 248 goals, the record-holder for the Russia national team with 31 goals, and the leading scorer in the history of the Russian Premier League with 177 goals.
