Serena Saltalamacchia earned a silver medal at the traditional archery world championships in Yankton, representing the Italian national team in the team event.
The competition brought together traditional archers from around the globe in the United States. Saltalamacchia contributed to the Italian squad’s second-place finish in the team standings, securing a spot on the podium.
Journey From Volley Prospect to National Team Archer
During her adolescence, Saltalamacchia was a promising volleyball player in Lipari. She later relocated to Lumezzane in the province of Brescia, where she pursued her passion for traditional archery.
Her father, Daniele Saltalamacchia, remained a proud supporter back in the Aeolian Islands as local friends celebrated her result.
Advancing to the Individual World Championship Knockouts
Saltalamacchia’s performance in the United States extended beyond the team competition. She also advanced in the individual bracket to reach the round of 16.

Reaching the individual eighth-finals against international opponents demonstrated her ability to compete with some of the best athletes in the traditional archery discipline.
Lumezzane Mayor Celebrates the World Championship Podium
Local leaders in northern Italy recognized the achievement. Lumezzane Mayor Joseph Facchini praised Saltalamacchia’s performance on the world stage, calling her a Sicilian by origin and a Lumezzanese by adoption.
“La ragazza – dice Joseph Facchini – si è fatta valere ai mondiali di tiro con l’arco tradizionale e conquistato risultati straordinari. Facciamole tutti un grande applauso! Ormai è lumezzanese d’adozione, Serena al momento si trova negli Stati Uniti dove ha gareggiato e vinto in questa particolare disciplina vestendo i colori della nazionale italiana.”
Facchini emphasized that her dedication to archery transformed her into a source of community pride in Lombardy, while family and friends in Lipari celebrated her international milestone from her home island.
