Sebastian Ofner undergoes third heel surgery and targets return

Austrian tennis player Sebastian Ofner has undergone surgery on his left heel again, sidelining the former world number 37 as he targets a return to training within four to six weeks, according to reports.

Third Heel Operation Sidelines Sebastian Ofner

Sebastian Ofner underwent the procedure on his left heel last week following previous surgeries on the same joint in 2021 and 2024. The 30-year-old tennis professional ended his competitive season early in September due to persistent foot issues that have hampered his progress on the ATP Tour. In a statement posted to Instagram, Ofner outlined his immediate rehabilitation schedule, stating that physical therapy and recovery are now his primary focus to reach full fitness and return to training at one hundred percent. He aims to be back on the court in four to six weeks and expressed optimism about his impending comeback.

Retirement Not Under Consideration Despite Setbacks

Despite enduring repeated physical setbacks throughout his career, Ofner dismissed any notion of retirement in an interview with the Kleine Zeitung. While acknowledging that the continuous health hurdles have taken a toll, the Austrian player confirmed he remains committed to continuing his professional career. Ofner stated that he is convinced he still has five or six good years left on the tour.

Filip Misolic Faces New Fitness Uncertainty

Fellow Austrian player Filip Misolic is also dealing with physical concerns following his return from a lengthy absence caused by a tear in the plantar fascia of his right sole. The 25-year-old returned to action at the US Open but was forced to retire during a Challenger tournament match in Bari at the end of September, before failing to progress through the qualifying rounds at a Challenger event in Braga. His sister and manager, Nina Misolic, told the Kleine Zeitung that something remains amiss without a definitive diagnosis yet. Filip Misolic is currently continuing to train while scheduling medical examinations for the week.
