Seahawks Place Jadarian Price on Injured Reserve With Chest Injury

The Seattle Seahawks placed rookie running back Jadarian Price on injured reserve after he aggravated a chest injury, leaving Emanuel Wilson and George Holani to shoulder the backfield load as receiver Rashid Shaheed emerges as an unexpected rushing threat.

Seattle made a series of roster adjustments ahead of their 30-23 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, reshaping an offensive backfield that has lost its primary rookie piece early in the 2026 NFL season. Head coach Mike Macdonald addressed the setback regarding Price’s placement on injured reserve, noting the physical toll the game takes on players.

“By no means is this JD’s fault or anything like that. This is what happens in football. Unfortunately, injuries happen. He can’t control these things. He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do since he got here. He’s had a great attitude. He’s been a great teammate. He has a great future. He’s going to play great football for us when he comes back, whenever that is and we move forward.”

Jadarian Price Lands on Injured Reserve After Aggravating Chest Injury

Price initially sustained the chest and rib injury during a Week 2 victory over the Arizona Cardinals when Arizona defender L.J. Collier landed on him following a swing pass. General manager John Schneider explained the unusual nature of the upper-rib issue during his pregame radio interview.

Although Price managed to play through the issue during a Week 3 matchup against the Washington Commanders, he aggravated the injury during a practice session. The team’s decision to shut him down means he will miss a minimum of four games, sitting out contests against the Chargers, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, and Kansas City Chiefs. General manager John Schneider noted during his pregame interview with the team’s radio network before kickoff against the Chargers that Price went on injured reserve after the aggravation occurred in practice, adding context to the decision. Price had been selected in the first round of the 2026 draft to help replace the offensive production left behind when Kenneth Walker III signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as a free agent. Through his first three games, Price recorded 119 rushing yards on 28 carries, averaging 4.3 yards per attempt, but struggled with ball-security issues that included losing a fumble in each of his final two appearances. The rookie’s playing time had tapered off following these turnovers, culminating in his placement on injured reserve.

Rashid Shaheed Steps Into Backfield Duty With Electric 28-Yard Touchdown

With the running back room stretched thin, the Seahawks deployed wide receiver Rashid Shaheed out of the backfield against Los Angeles. The unconventional usage yielded immediate results when Shaheed took a pitch from quarterback Sam Darnold and dashed around the edge for a 28-yard touchdown run.

Macdonald revealed that utilizing Shaheed as a runner wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment decision cooked up solely for Sunday’s game plan.

“We’ve had that in all [training] camp,” coach Mike Macdonald told reporters on Monday. “This isn’t a quote from [offensive coordinator Brian] Fleury, but felt like it was appropriate because of [Price] going down, he gave us some speed. That was cool.”

In addition to his offensive contributions, Shaheed remains a key weapon in the return game for the defending Super Bowl champions.

Emanuel Wilson and George Holani Take Over Primary Rushing Load

In Price’s absence, Emanuel Wilson stepped into the featured role after previously spelling Price with a 92-yard performance against Arizona. Against the Chargers, Wilson rushed for 81 yards on 21 carries and scored two touchdowns, including a 23-yard screen pass taken into the end zone.

George Holani also anchors the rotation alongside Wilson while Zach Charbonnet works his way back from a torn ACL sustained in January. Charbonnet recently began practicing, opening a 21-day return window. Meanwhile, Seattle explored further veteran depth by hosting former Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon for a free-agent visit. Holani has contributed to the ground game with 15 carries for 52 yards over his first three appearances, while the coaching staff continues to evaluate internal options. To bolster depth further following injuries and roster adjustments, the Seahawks also signed Velus Jones Jr. off the practice squad, and activated cornerback Trevon Diggs alongside safety Maxen Hook to the 53-man roster ahead of the matchup with Los Angeles. Head coach Mike Macdonald expressed full confidence in the remaining running backs as the team prepares to host the San Francisco 49ers in an important NFC West divisional showdown.
