Eagles Backfield Crisis Deepens With Barkley Injury
Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is facing a potential multi-week absence after sustaining a hamstring injury during Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams.
Early Exit at SoFi Stadium
Barkley’s departure occurred shortly after he recorded a 6-yard carry early in the opening quarter. The veteran running back was observed holding his right leg on the sidelines before heading to the locker room. Before his exit, Barkley had logged two carries and one reception. The Eagles officially announced he would not return to the game due to the hamstring issue.
Personnel Void in the Rushing Rotation
The injury creates an immediate void in the Eagles’ offensive rotation. Following his departure, the team utilized Tank Bigsby to manage the rushing load. However, the situation in the backfield deteriorated further on Monday when the team placed Bigsby on the injured reserve list. Per league rules, this transaction mandates that Bigsby miss a minimum of four games, significantly thinning the Eagles’ available depth at the position.
A Depleted Roster Under Pressure
Barkley’s injury compounds a difficult stretch for the Eagles, who played the Rams without six regular starters. The team’s lineup was already depleted by injuries to wide receiver DeVonta Smith (hamstring), linebacker Zack Baun (concussion), tight end Dallas Goedert, guard Landon Dickerson, and safety Marcus Epps. Additionally, offensive lineman Lane Johnson was a late scratch for the contest due to personal reasons.

Managing a Fragile Offense
This is not the first time this season that the Eagles have had to adjust their game plan due to Barkley’s health. He was previously forced to sit out nearly the entire Week 2 matchup against the Tennessee Titans. As the team prepares for their upcoming schedule, the focus remains on the medical staff’s weekly assessments to determine when Barkley can safely return to the field.
