San Germán Owner Confirms Interest from Potential Buyers for BSN Franchise

Interested buyers have contacted the San Germán Atlétiques about acquiring the team, though franchise owner José “Cheo” Rivera confirmed that nothing concrete has been finalized beyond preliminary phone calls.

Rivera Receives Inquiries About Selling San Germán Atlétiques

Inquiries regarding a potential sale of the San Germán Atlétiques have reached the front office, according to franchise owner José “Cheo” Rivera during an interview with El Nuevo Día. Rivera stated that multiple interested parties have initiated contact, though he chose to keep their identities confidential. Despite the outside interest, Rivera emphasized that his immediate focus remains fixed on running the organization. “Right now, what’s on the table is ‘Cheo, apoderado,’” Rivera said.

Rivera also noted that inquiries of this nature surface on an annual basis. While he acknowledged the potential for incoming ownership to push the franchise toward new heights, he maintained that day-to-day operations continue as usual while he evaluates any offers that could benefit the team.

Planning Ahead for the 2027 Baloncesto Superior Nacional Season

Preparations for sponsorships are already underway, and season tickets are scheduled to go on sale in November. Meanwhile, Casiano has begun evaluating roster needs and potential player trades. Rivera stressed that the organization is operating under normal conditions despite the external phone calls.

“We are already working on what the 2027 season is,” Rivera said. “We started working this week on sponsorships. Season passes start in November. Eddie is already working on the recruitment and change of players, if there is any. We are working normally.”

Atlétiques Finish Regular Season with Third-Best Record

The franchise enters this period of evaluation on the heels of a successful campaign. The Atlétiques finished the BSN regular season with the third-best overall record at 21–13, capturing the top spot in Group A and advancing deep into the postseason. Individual recognition followed the strong team showing when Rivera was honored as the BSN Apoderado del Año for his leadership of the organization.

The team’s storied history in the league includes 14 championships. Rivera has spent five seasons guiding the organization through competitive BSN schedules, maintaining San Germán as a consistent playoff contender.

Rivera Considers New Investment for the Franchise

Reflecting on the nature of the unsolicited phone calls, Rivera expressed openness to fresh investment if it aligns with the long-term goals of the historic club. He suggested that incoming buyers could inject “new blood” into the organization. However, he cautioned that preliminary talks do not guarantee an imminent shift in leadership.

“If someone appears for the benefit of the franchise and wants to take it to another level, I don’t know. New blood is always good. That’s not bad,” Rivera said. “But at the moment there is nothing.”
