Stephan Schmitter Announces Joint Production Plans
Formula 1 broadcasts across RTL and Sky could undergo changes starting next season, as RTL Managing Director Stephan Schmitter announced plans to merge sports production operations following the acquisition of Sky Deutschland by RTL. Up to this point, both networks have deployed independent crews and separate signals during concurrently broadcast races, according to a report by DWDL.de.
Under the proposed framework, the two broadcasters would transition to a single shared production setup to trim expenses and capture operational synergies. Schmitter did not disclose how established on-air talent—including RTL commentators Heiko Waßer and Christian Danner, alongside the Sky pairing of Sascha Roos and Ralf Schumacher—will be integrated into the revised structure.

This DFB-Pokal broadcast operates through a sublicensing agreement with Sky Sport, which will simultaneously air the match alongside its multi-match conference coverage. Additional second-round free-to-air broadcasts feature Borussia Dortmund against Werder Bremen on ZDF at 20:45 UTC+2 on October 27, followed by FC Bayern München versus 1. FC Magdeburg on Das Erste the following evening.
