“De Sergio no me gusta el acierto, que hoy ha sido extraordinario y bienvenido sea, sino la mentalidad.”
Real Madrid has set the all-time scoring record in the Liga Endesa after the first four rounds of the season, putting up 442 points for an average of 110.5 points per game. The total eclipses the previous mark set by Barça during the 1985–86 campaign, when they accumulated 437 points and averaged 109.3.
Real Madrid breaks 41-year scoring mark
The previous club record for Madrid after four rounds also dated back 41 years, when they opened the season with 420 points and a 105.0 average. Los blancos han superado ese dato después de meter 89 al Unicaja en el estreno de la competición, 114 al Monbus Obradoiro después de una prórroga, 120 al Kids&Us Manresa y 119 al Surne Bilbao Basket.
The fast-paced style brought by Martínez has taken root quickly, emphasizing short possessions and a high volume of three-point attempts, backed by control of the boards. Real Madrid sits alone at the top of the Liga Endesa standings with an unblemished 4-0 record and a +81 point differential, though in the 2020-21 campaign under Pablo Laso the team also started with four straight victories and a +83 average.
That dominance extends to the Euroleague. During a double-game week in Europe’s premier club competition, Madrid raised its scoring average to 112.0 points by defeating Armani Milán 98 and ASVEL Villeurbanne 111.
Sergio Llull reaches 700 appearances and 7,000 points
Sergio Llull reached a pair of historic milestones during the victory against Bilbao Basket, becoming the sixth player to appear in 700 Liga Endesa games and the first player to score 7,000 points in the competition with his current club.
Llull entered the match in the second quarter and scored 19 points to lead all scorers. He hit his milestone 7,000th point with a pair of free throws with 1:12 remaining in the third quarter. He has played 689 games with his current club, equal to Juan Carlos Navarro for the most league appearances with a single club. Ahead of him in the historical record of most games played are Felipe Reyes (824), Rafa Jofresa (756), Nacho Rodríguez (737), Marcelinho Huertas (735), and Nacho Azofra (705). In total club statistics, Llull leads Real Madrid historically in league matches (688), minutes (14,588), points (6,992), assists (2,088), and three-pointers (1,073), while ranking second behind Felipe Reyes in overall valuation (7,091 to 7,880), free throws made (1,271 to 1,714), and fouls drawn (1,748 to 2,364). Across the entire Liga Endesa history, only four players have converted more points with a single jersey: Jordi Villacampa (8,991 with Joventut), Juan Carlos Navarro (8,318 with Barça), and Epi (7,029 with Barça).
“Es un honor. Estoy muy agradecido al Real Madrid y al Manresa, que son los dos equipos con los que he jugado en la ACB,” Llull told Movistar Plus, expressing gratitude to both clubs.
Río Breogán joins early scoring surge
Real Madrid is not alone in rewriting the league’s offensive records early in the campaign. Río Breogán is the first team to surpass 100 points in the four first rounds and its total of 428 and average of 107.0 have entered the historical podium only behind the marks of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
