Rapid Wien aims for a long-term contract extension with Yusuf Demir

SK Rapid has opened direct negotiations to secure Yusuf Demir on a long-term contract extension, keeping the 23-year-old playmaker in Hütteldorf beyond his current deal, LAOLA1 reported. Managing Director of Sport Markus Katzer confirmed the talks during the half-time break of a Bundesliga fixture against LASK, pointing to the player’s sharp progression since the start of the domestic campaign.

Contract Timeline and Extension Strategy

Demir is currently under contract until the summer of 2027. However, the Hütteldorf club holds a unilateral option to extend that agreement by an additional year. Katzer indicated that while the club has until a set deadline to trigger that clause, leadership prefers to negotiate a broader, more secure extension first.

“We don’t have any stress with pulling the option, there is a date until which we can pull them,” Katzer explained to Sky during the broadcast. “We will definitely pull the option, only before we pull it, we definitely want to extend the contract.”

Performance Growth in the Bundesliga

The urgency behind the talks stems from Demir’s recent impact on the pitch. Over the opening seven Bundesliga matchdays, the attacking midfielder has contributed two goals and two assists, establishing himself as a central figure in Rapid’s tactical plans. Katzer noted that the player has taken a massive step forward, displaying a noticeable increase in performance from week to week.

“I believe he feels really comfortable,” Katzer said. “He has taken a giant step. You can see an increase from game to game. He is an outstanding player for us and that’s why we definitely want to extend the contract and I believe that we can do that.”

Next Steps in Hütteldorf

Club officials utilized the recent international break to hold initial discussions with Demir’s representatives, meeting two days prior to the LASK fixture. With initial parameters established, Rapid aims to finalize the longer-term framework before relying solely on the existing 2027 expiration and its subsidiary option clause.
