Rams Cut Kicker Harrison Mevis After Overtime Loss to Bills

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay released kicker Harrison Mevis on Tuesday following a 37-34 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills in which Mevis missed two crucial field goal attempts, according to reports.

Mevis Misses Prove Costly in Overtime Defeat

The decision to part ways with the 24-year-old kicker came just a day after the Rams fell short at Highmark Stadium. During the extra frame against Buffalo, Mevis saw a potential 48-yard game-winning field goal blocked by Bills defensive lineman Gregory Rousseau. Earlier in the contest, he also failed to convert from 50 yards out.

Those misses compounded an inconsistent start to the season for Mevis. Through the opening weeks of the year, he successfully converted only five of his nine field goal attempts, prompting swift action from the Rams’ front office.

Blake Grupe Signed From Jets Practice Squad

To fill the vacancy on the active roster, Los Angeles moved quickly to sign kicker Blake Grupe off the New York Jets practice squad. Grupe enters the Rams’ facility ahead of the team’s upcoming preparations for Week 14.

Grupe brings established NFL experience to his new club. Last season split between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints, he converted 29 of his 37 field goal attempts. Over his career, Grupe maintains an 81.9% success rate across 105 total field goal tries.

Rams Prepare for Next Opponent

The Rams return to practice this week to integrate Grupe into special teams meetings ahead of their next scheduled regular-season matchup.
