Rafael Gruszka says Caribes de Anzoátegui aims for LVBP championship

Caribes de Anzoátegui enters the upcoming LVBP season aiming directly for the championship after reversing a three-year downward spiral with a run to the league’s final series last year, club president Rafael Gruszka told Líder en Deportes during the league’s opening press conference.

Gruszka Builds Squad to Fight for Championship Title

Gruszka highlighted the work carried out by the management alongside the coaching staff to structure a solid team capable of fighting for the championship title, noting that the squad is filled with youth, talent, and experience. He added that numerous important changes will help the franchise go further, which entails winning the championship, and stated, Contamos con muy buen pitcheo, buenos importados y muchachos que juegan en las ligas menores que nos van a acompañar este año.

Detroit Tigers Approval Awaited for Eduardo Salazar

Gruszka confirmed that the club is currently awaiting clearance from the Detroit Tigers to incorporate catcher Eduardo Salazar. Meanwhile, infielder Andruw Monasterio has been ruled out for the upcoming games due to pending documentation issues, preventing his immediate integration into the squad.

Debate Over Eight-Import Rule and Pitching Depth

League-wide roster regulations continue to draw scrutiny from club executives, particularly regarding the expanded limit on foreign players. The LVBP approved an increase to eight imports per team for the upcoming season, a decision that drew mixed reactions from leadership. Gruszka voiced opposition to the expansion during his interview, maintaining that his preferred stance was to keep the previous import limits.

Despite his personal reservations, Gruszka acknowledged the decision was reached through democratic voting among league franchises and noted potential benefits for team bullpens. Sourcing players outside the Major League Baseball system presents logistical challenges due to roster restrictions, but the rule change gives clubs an avenue to acquire extra pitching depth.
