Platform TMC Poviglio secured promotion to the Serie A Gold 2027 by defeating Tecnovap Verona 3-2 in their promotion series. The decisive victory arrived Sunday morning following a stellar pitching workload from Gongora, who threw 27 innings across the series and recorded 50 strikeouts.
Gongora Works Twenty-Seven Innings to Secure Promotion
The Emilia club booked their spot in the top flight after a demanding weekend schedule that culminated in a decisive fifth game. Gongora anchored the pitching staff by earning the victory in all three games that sealed the series outcome. Less than 11 hours after finishing Game 4 on Saturday night, the pitcher returned to the mound Sunday morning for the final game, throwing a complete-game victory that featured 14 strikeouts, three hits allowed, and one walk to defeat Verona 8-1.
Verona stayed competitive early in the finale, holding a 2-1 lead through four innings. The turning point arrived in the fifth frame when Alvarez hit a three-run home run off relief pitcher Cuomo Santa Maria, pulling the visitors ahead for good and locking down the 8-1 scoreline. Earlier in the series, Verona captured Game 3 by a 13-2 margin behind pitcher Aldegheri, who racked up 13 strikeouts while giving up four hits and one walk across 6.2 innings. Poviglio bounced back in Game 4 with a 14-6 victory, where Gongora struck out 14 batters in seven innings before reliever Castillo closed out the final frames.
Itas Mutua Rovigo Takes Two-Game Lead Over Milano 1946
In the parallel promotion series, Itas Mutua Rovigo capitalized on home-field advantage to establish a 2-0 lead against Milano 1946. Rovigo took Game 1 by a 4-3 score on a walk-off double by Taschin that allowed Salvatore to cross home plate in the bottom of the ninth inning. The opener featured strong starts from Rovigo’s Marelli and Milan’s Doba before late-inning scoring decided the contest.
Game 2 offered a similar pitching duel between Perdomo and Perez, ending in a 2-1 victory for Rovigo. After Milano took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning via a Bancora single, the hosts responded with two runs on a Dreni single and a Salvatori double. Milano threatened in the ninth with runners on first and second, but a tag at home plate on a Torrellas single and a subsequent strikeout preserved the narrow win for Rovigo.
