Phu Thuong Ward Labor Union Launches Multi-Sport Tournament

The Phu Thuong ward labor union launched its multi-sport tournament featuring minivoetbal, badminton, pickleball, and touwtrekken, bringing together local labor units under the banner of workplace solidarity and health promotion.

Municipal organizers structured the competition to mark four major calendar milestones: the 72nd anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi spanning October 10, 1954, to October 10, 2026; the 22nd anniversary of Vietnamese Entrepreneur Day running from October 13, 2004, to October 13, 2026; the 96th anniversary of Vietnamese Women’s Day covering October 20, 1930, to October 20, 2026; and the first anniversary of the founding of the Phu Thuong ward labor union.

Opening Ceremony and Commemorative Flags Presented to Local Units

During the opening ceremonies, the organizing committee distributed commemorative flags to the participating grassroots labor delegations. Nguyen Thuy Ha, vice chairwoman of the Phu Thuong ward labor union, delivered the opening remarks, stressing that labor union expansion extends beyond raw membership figures.

The development of the trade union organization is not only about increasing the number of local trade unions and members, but also about strengthening mutual ties and bringing activities closer to workers, Nguyen Thuy Ha stated during her address.

Operating under the guiding principle that no local labor union stands alone, the tournament gives functionaries, members, and rank-and-file workers an avenue to build physical fitness, socialize, and share operational experiences.

Multisport Competition Across Four Disciplines

Athletes contested matches in minivoetbal, badminton, pickleball, and tug-of-war across local venues in an atmosphere described by observers as highly energetic and heavily supported by spectators. The inclusion of women’s minivoetbal squads added a distinct focal point to the schedule, coinciding with preparations for Vietnamese Women’s Day.

Organizers noted that the participation of female athletes highlights the connective role played by the union’s women’s department, giving members a structured platform to demonstrate athleticism, confidence, and dynamism.

Building Regional Collective Strength Through Annual Play

Looking toward future editions, Nguyen Tien Canh, chairman of the Phu Thuong ward labor union, outlined plans to establish the tournament as an annual fixture tied to October historical anniversaries and the union’s founding date.

We hope that the teams will become closer after each season, with more coordination and support in union activities, Nguyen Tien Canh said, emphasizing that athletic bonds translate directly into improved care for workers.

Under the overarching slogan Healthy Working – Developing Together, the competition aims to stimulate grassroots physical training movements while cementing inter-union networks. Closing ceremonies featured the distribution of medals and awards to top-performing teams and individual athletes across all four sporting divisions.
