Penamacor Launches Walking Football Team for Over-50s

Walking Football Penamacor Launches Season With 19 Registered Players

The Walking Football Penamacor squad officially launched its competitive season on Thursday, October 15, holding its inaugural training session at the Municipal Pavilion, according to reports. Promoted directly by the Municipality of Penamacor, the newly established team currently boasts 19 registered players federated with the Portuguese Football Federation.

Municipal Approval and Weekly Training Schedule

The path to the team’s debut began months prior when the Municipal Council unanimously approved the creation of the Walking Football Penamacor squad during a meeting on April 16. Following that legislative step, structured weekly training sessions were established to keep the roster active. According to a press release cited by Central Press, the team gathers every Thursday at 10:00 local time inside the Municipal Pavilion.

Rules and Objectives of the Walking Variant

Designed primarily for individuals over the age of 50, walking football provides an accessible avenue for physical activity, social integration, and community building. The municipal initiative aims to actively combat social isolation, sedentary lifestyles, and depression while improving overall health metrics among older adults. This adapted form of football is played without running, jumping, sliding tackles, tripping, or cutting, aiming to safeguard the physical safety of participants regardless of age or physical condition. Furthermore, the initiative forms part of the municipality’s policy to promote healthy lifestyles and active aging through supportive and socially impactful inclusive projects.

With the opening training session now complete, the squad looks toward a busy competitive calendar across the region. Throughout the ongoing season, Walking Football Penamacor is scheduled to participate in various friendly meetings and fixtures against other representative teams from across the district. Organizers have also confirmed that at least one of these multi-team district gatherings will be hosted locally in Penamacor.
