Pallacanestro Cantù has officially secured the services of Lithuanian forward Osvaldas Olisevičius, adding significant experience to the roster for the remainder of the season. The club confirmed the signing on Tuesday, bringing the 31-year-old veteran into the fold as they look to strengthen their competitive standing.
A Career Built Across European Leagues
Born in Vilnius on January 10, 1993, Olisevičius stands 200 cm (approximately 6’7″) and weighs 90 kg. His development began within the youth systems of Akademija Vilnius and the Šarūnas Marčiulionis Academy. His professional trajectory saw an early breakthrough in 2013 with Trakai, where he was recognized as the most improved player in the Lithuanian second division. According to reports from Pallacanestro Cantù, his subsequent move to Pieno žvaigždės allowed him to gain international exposure through the FIBA Europe Cup.
Olisevičius’s career has been characterized by mobility between top European leagues. In 2017, he ventured outside Lithuania for the first time to play for Würzburg in Germany. He later returned to his home country to secure a Baltic Basketball League title with Pieno žvaigždės, followed by two seasons with Neptūnas, where he participated in the Basketball Champions League. A return to Germany in 2020-21 saw him average 13.9 points per game with Medi Bayreuth, a stint that preceded his introduction to the Italian LBA.

Impact on the Italian LBA
The transition to the Italian league in 2021 proved to be a defining chapter for the forward. During his debut season with Pallacanestro Reggiana, he made an immediate impact by averaging 16.2 points per game. He maintained a high level of production during his time in Reggio Emilia before moving to Treviso in 2023. Over three seasons in Treviso, Olisevičius remained a consistent offensive threat, recording averages of 15.7 and 16.9 points in his first two campaigns and closing his tenure with 13.6 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game, as noted by Backdoor Podcast.
Beyond his club career, Olisevičius has represented Lithuania on the international stage. His youth career was highlighted by a silver medal at the 2009 Under-16 European Championships. He has since earned nine official caps with the senior national team.
Strategic Roster Addition
For the leadership at Pallacanestro Cantù, the acquisition represents a calculated response to the current transfer market. Simone Giofrè, the club’s General Manager, stated that the organization chose to act quickly when the opportunity to sign a player of Olisevičius’s caliber emerged. “The transfer market presented us with this opportunity to add a player with his characteristics and as a club we decided not to let it slip away,” Giofrè said.
The player expressed immediate enthusiasm regarding his new role in Brianza. “I’m very happy to have signed with Cantù and I can’t wait to begin this adventure and meet all the fans,” Olisevičius said in a statement released by the team.
What Comes Next for the Team
The arrival of the Lithuanian forward provides head coach Nicola Brienza with a versatile option in the frontcourt as the team prepares for its upcoming schedule. With the signing finalized, the club’s focus now shifts to integrating Olisevičius into the tactical rotation ahead of their next official LBA fixture.
