Olympic badminton champion Chen Qingchen and saber fencing champion Liang Jian豪 joined students at Guangzhou’s Baiyun District Jingxi Primary School on the morning of October 10 for the “Colorful Vitality Blossoms, Riding Sports Together Grow” charity playground campaign, sports.ycwb.com reported.
Olympic Champions Visit Guangzhou Primary School
The outreach event brought elite athletes directly to the campus, including 2024 Paris Olympics women’s doubles gold medalist Chen Qingchen, men’s saber athlete and 14th National Games men’s team champion Liang Jianhao, and active Guangdong women’s football player Zhou Chenxin. Dozens of students from the first, third, and fourth grades at the school’s Hengda campus gathered alongside local officials and sports foundation representatives to take part in group warm-ups, watch public welfare videos, and join interactive sports sessions.
Rather than focusing exclusively on medals and competition scores, the visiting athletes shared personal accounts of their athletic journeys. Chen discussed the responsibilities and insights she has gathered throughout her career, explaining how she aims to pass on the lessons learned on the international stage. Zhou reflected on past career setbacks and low points, detailing how she broke down daunting long-term goals into manageable steps to regain her competitive direction. Liang drew on his experience in team sports to emphasize that communication, mutual trust, and cooperation matter just as much as individual athletic ability.
Interactive Training Sessions and Equipment Donations
Following the assembly, student sports representatives stepped onto the court to spar in badminton under the direct supervision of Chen. The Olympic champion observed student technique and offered real-time pointers on footwork, rhythm, and tactical details.
During the official ceremony, the three athletes signed and presented a custom commemorative handprint plaque to Jingxi Primary School. In return, three school representatives presented the guests with the campus mascots, Jingbao and Xibao.
Institutional representatives also delivered substantial material support during the visit. Ren Jun, head of mass fitness projects for the Hong Kong Jockey Club, delivered a batch of specialized soccer and basketball equipment designed to expand campus athletic participation. Jingxi School Party Branch Secretary Zhou剑 accepted the gear and offered a reciprocal banner.
Fun Sports Competitions Expand Community Outreach Program
The formal launch ceremony concluded with a series of interactive games on the playground, featuring collaborative relay races, inflatable caterpillar racing, and tennis challenges designed to encourage teamwork and physical activity among younger students.
Jointly initiated by the national Sports Lottery Management Center and the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the charity initiative has expanded to nine schools across Beijing, Sichuan, and Guangdong, reaching a total of over 9,000 teachers and students. The program provides health screening, intervention courses, athlete visits, and customized sports equipment packages to participating schools.
