Norte de Santander wins silver in archery at Medellín tournament

Medal in Medellín Highlights Archery Ascent

«El balance de esta participación, que ha sido la más grande que ha organizado la Federación, con 300 deportistas, es positivo», afirmó Diego Vásquez, entrenador de la Liga de Tiro con Arco de Norte de Santander,, tras el II Campeonato Nacional Interligas de Tiro con Arco disputado en Medellín y reportado por La Opinión Cúcuta. Giselle Dávila Romero and Andy Joseph Mendoza Sandoval secured a silver medal in the U-15 mixed compound team event at the Unidad Deportiva de Belén, providing the delegation its standout result of the weekend.

The tournament drew 300 athletes across 13 regional leagues competing in U-15, U-18, U-21, and senior divisions. Host department Antioquia dominated the overall standings, capturing 17 gold, 11 silver, and 11 bronze medals for a total of 39 podium finishes. Valle del Cauca secured third place with two golds, seven silvers, and four bronzes, while Norte de Santander finished tenth in the overall classification.

Individual and Team Performances in Antioquia

Beyond the silver medal secured by Dávila and Mendoza in the U-15 compound event, Norte de Santander placed several athletes deep into elimination rounds. In the U-15 compound qualification rounds, Andy Mendoza finished fourth and Daniela Ávila fifth in the women’s division, while Andrés Pizarro took seventh in U-15 recurve. In individual brackets, Mendoza reached the round of 16, Ávila advanced to the quarterfinals, and Pizarro matched that quarterfinal run in recurve. Mixed team pairings also featured strong runs, with Allison Reyes and Andrés Pizarro reaching the recurve quarterfinals, alongside compound pairs Sarah González and Juan Osorio, and Moisés Parada and Sarah González.

Equipment Limitations and 2027 National Games Outlook

Despite securing eight quota spots so far for the upcoming XXII Juegos Nacionales scheduled for 2027 in Sincelejo and Montería, coach Vásquez emphasized that regional delegations face a steep competitive gap due to equipment disparities. «Para nosotros se ha hecho difícil ir actualizándonos al ritmo de las otras ligas», explained Vásquez, noting that athletes often rely on familial sacrifices to replace aging gear. Vásquez concluded that modernizing equipment remains essential for technical advancement as the squad prepares for the 2027 multi-sport games.
