Nicolás Ripa secured an 11th-place finish in the traditional archery tournament at the world championships in the United States, recording one of the highest finishes for an Argentine competitor in the discipline’s history, according to El Chubut.
Championship Performance in the United States
Ripa opened the international competition by securing the sixth position across two days of preliminary qualification rounds. That consistency placed him firmly inside the leading group of archers before the knockout stages commenced. In the round of 16, Ripa faced Harvits of Norway, dropping the elimination match. Based on cumulative scoring totals, Ripa finished 11th overall in the final standings while retaining a virtual sixth-place standing through his total points gathered during the event.
Maximiliano González joined Ripa at the world championship event, making his debut and finishing in 31st place. González displayed a noticeable performance evolution during the second day of qualification rounds. The participation of both archers validated the training framework established by the Club Arqueros del Carpío and head coach Víctor Rodríguez, alongside backing from municipal sports secretariats and regional athletic bodies.
Patagonia Emerges as a National Archery Powerhouse
Argentina’s national team roster for the world championship featured 15 athletes selected by the Federación Argentina de Tiro con Arco (FATARCO). Five of those team members hailed from the Patagonia region, accounting for one-third of the national delegation. The regional contingent included Carolina Escalada and Angelo Petrelli from Puerto Madryn, Ripa and González from Trevelin, and Dani Martínez from Comodoro Rivadavia.

Ripa attributed this heavy representation to competitive continuity cultivated since 2018 through the Liga de Honor 3D Zona Patagónica. Regional venues such as Don Edmundo, Nawal, and La Floral hosted technical circuits that conditioned local athletes for international terrain. According to Ripa, regional events provide the technical complexity necessary to develop versatility among archers preparing for global competition.
Strategic Training Plans to Close the International Gap
Despite strong results, Ripa acknowledged a persistent scoring gap separating Argentine traditional archers from global leaders. To address this, Ripa and regional athletes are utilizing a distance training program designed by Víctor Rodríguez, whom Ripa identified as a leading 3D coach in Argentina. The structured framework aims to refine precision and reduce the numerical disparity against top-tier international competitors without altering the core training routines established across Patagonian clubs.
The campaign demonstrated that regional athletes can compete directly with international figures while maintaining rigorous domestic development schedules. The collaboration between municipal sports agencies in Trevelin, provincial athletic departments, and local clubs provides the structural foundation required for future international appearances by Patagonian competitors.
