San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has been suspended for six games and fined $500,000 by the NFL following a personal conduct policy violation stemming from an arrest in Ohio, where he later pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor counts, according to reports published by tvasports.ca and caucusfootball.com.
NFL Imposes Six-Game Suspension After Ohio Criminal Charges
The league’s disciplinary action follows an incident in Ohio that led to criminal charges against the team executive. In response to the arrest and subsequent legal proceedings, the NFL imposed a six-game suspension alongside the half-million-dollar financial penalty.
To account for time already served away from the franchise, the league factored in the first three games of the 2026 NFL season. During those initial matchups, York voluntarily distanced himself from the organization and abstained from attending league meetings. Those three missed games count directly toward his total discipline, leaving three remaining contests under the suspension order.
York Apologizes to Family and Organization
Following the announcement of the penalty, York released an official statement accepting the league’s decision in full. He apologized to his family, players, coaching staff, front office employees, team supporters, and corporate partners, acknowledging that his actions did not align with the personal standards he expects to set for his children. The 49ers owner stated his intention to learn from the incident and gradually rebuild trust within the organization.
York Resumes Duties Before Returning to Home Stadium
With three games credited from his self-imposed absence, York’s formal suspension concludes on Tuesday, Oct. 20, allowing him to resume his executive duties. However, his physical return to the stadium sideline will be delayed by the team’s travel schedule.

San Francisco plays its first game following the expiration of the suspension on the road, traveling to face the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 25 for Week 7 of the NFL season. Following that matchup, the 49ers are scheduled for a bye week, meaning York will not attend a home game immediately upon his reinstatement. The first home game he is eligible to attend will take place on Nov. 8, when the 49ers host the Las Vegas Raiders at Levi’s Stadium.
