Nestlé and NBA sign global marketing partnership, SWI swissinfo.ch reports

Nestlé has agreed to a multi-year international marketing partnership with the National Basketball Association that spans 21 markets across four continents and is the food conglomerate’s largest international brand collaboration, SWI SWI swissinfo.ch reported. The alliance introduces cocoa beverage brands Milo, Nescau, and Nesquik as official partners of the league starting January 1, 2027.

The global agreement pairs the professional basketball competition with some of Nestlé’s most recognizable consumer drink labels. Under the terms announced in October 2026, the collaboration will integrate NBA branding into retail campaigns, promotional giveaways, and grassroots basketball initiatives designed to encourage physical activity among youth.

Global Markets and Rollout Schedule for the NBA Partnership

The marketing initiative will roll out in phases across four continents, launching on January 1, 2027. Initial launch territories include the United States, Canada, Brazil, Germany, France, and Great Britain, with the Philippines scheduled to join the partnership in October 2027.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed by Nestlé representatives. However, a company spokesperson told the AWP news agency that the arrangement represents the largest investment by the relevant Nestlé product category into a single platform partnership, measured by both financial commitment and global reach. Nestlé management intends to focus its marketing strategy on fewer, larger global platforms capable of deployment across multiple countries.

Retail Activations and Grassroots Youth Programs

Consumers will encounter the partnership directly on store shelves and at league events starting in 2027. Plans include featuring official NBA logos on product packaging alongside promotional contests offering tickets and fan merchandise. Beyond retail sales promotions, the collaboration emphasizes youth development through joint activities tied to the league’s grassroots basketball programs.

Nestlé-Chef Philipp Navratil stated on his LinkedIn profile that the partnership aims to engage 2.5 million people in physical activity through basketball programs over the course of three years. Navratil also noted that the NBA maintains a global fan base numbering 871 million people, providing a massive international audience for the participating cocoa beverage brands.

The Scope and History of the National Basketball Association

Founded in 1946, the NBA operates as North America’s most important professional basketball competition and stands among the most globally recognized sports leagues in operation. The organization comprises 30 teams—29 based in the United States and one, the Toronto Raptors, based in Canada. Over the decades, athletes such as Michael Jordan, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry have helped transform the competition into a globally marketed sports brand.

The upcoming January 1, 2027 launch date marks the official commencement of joint retail activations, packaging updates, and youth-focused sports events across the initial 21 participating markets.
