Alvaro Carpe Tops Practice at Phillip Island While Veda Ega Pratama Slips to Sixteenth
Veda Ega Pratama finished 16th in the Moto3 Australia 2026 practice session at Phillip Island Circuit on Friday, October 23, detiksport reported. The Indonesian rider opened the morning session strongly by clocking the fourth-fastest time before sliding down the timing sheets as rivals quickened their pace in the closing minutes.
How the Practice Session Unfolded Across the Grid
Early in the morning session, Veda hovered near the front with a lap in the 1-minute, 36-second bracket, sitting just 0.657 seconds behind early pacesetter Maximo Quiles, according to CNN Indonesia. As track conditions evolved and riders pushed for single-lap speed, David Almansa temporarily seized the top spot with a 1:35.616.
Several yellow flags disrupted the running as multiple riders suffered crashes mid-session, including Marianos Nikolis and Malaysia’s Hakim Danish, who ultimately settled for 25th place after his accident. Veda briefly held ninth position before slipping to 10th and 11th as the session ticked toward its final ten minutes. Despite returning to the circuit to log a 1:36.248 lap, improvements from the rest of the field pushed the Honda Team Asia rider outside the top 14.
Late-Session Charges and Final Times at Phillip Island
The battle for supremacy peaked in the final minutes as Joel Kelso briefly went quickest before Alvaro Carpe secured the benchmark time of the morning, stopping the clock at 1:35.292. Kelso finished second, just 0.026 seconds adrift, with Maximo Quiles, David Almansa, and Scott Ogden rounding out the top five.

Veda drifted to 15th in the dying moments and finished the session in 16th overall, missing the provisional direct cut for Q2 by finishing 0.956 seconds behind Carpe’s leading mark. Meanwhile, Thailand rookie Kiattisak Singhapong delivered the standout performance among Asian riders by claiming 10th position.
Standings Implications Following Adrián Fernández’s Appeal Reversal
With those points reinstated, Fernández vaulted into fifth place in the Moto3 standings with 148 points. The adjustment had a direct ripple effect on other riders in the points-paying positions, lowering Veda Ega Pratama one spot in the provisional standings from seventh to eighth place ahead of the weekend’s qualifying sessions.
