The Milwaukee Brewers secured a 10-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, taking a three-game lead in the best-of-seven World Series.
Brewers Build Commanding Lead at Tropicana Field
Milwaukee entered the matchup holding narrow leads from the opening games of the series, claiming a 3-2 win in Game 1 and a 5-4 victory in Game 2. In Game 3, however, the National League champions relied on a 16-hit offensive output to pull away from the Rays. The victory places the franchise one win away from capturing its first World Series title in its 58-year history.
Offensive Explosion Defines the Third Inning
The scoring opened in the top of the third inning with one out and runners on first and second bases. Christian Yelich delivered an RBI single to left field to bring home the game’s first run. William Contreras followed immediately with an RBI single to right field, extending Milwaukee’s lead to 2-0.
Record-Breaking Eighth-Run Fifth Inning
Milwaukee broke the game open in the top of the fifth inning with a two-out rally. Contreras hit an infield single to third base, and a video review overturned an initial call to keep Yelich safe at first. With the bases loaded, Brice Turang hit a two-run single to widen the gap. Mitchell followed with an RBI single to left field, and consecutive RBI doubles by Cooper Pratt and Sal Frelick pushed the score to 8-0.
David Hamilton added an RBI single up the middle, and Jackson Chourio drove in another run with a double down the right-field line to make it 10-0. The sequence set a Major League Baseball postseason record with seven consecutive batters collecting hits, alongside a postseason record for runs scored in a single inning.
Rays Break Shutout Late as Series Shifts to Game 4
Tampa Bay avoided a shutout in the bottom of the ninth inning when Yandy Díaz drove in a run, but the offense could not mount a comeback. The two teams return to Tropicana Field for Game 4, where the Brewers will have their first opportunity to close out the series.
