Mexico claimed a golden sweep in recurve team archery at the Centroamerican and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo 2026, defeating Colombia in both the men’s and women’s gold medal finals.
Gold Medals Secured Against Colombia
Ana Paula Vázquez, Ángela Ruiz, and Alejandra Valencia opened the medal rounds for the Mexican delegation by defeating the Colombian trio 5-1 in the women’s recurve team final. The victory earned the squad the gold medal and automatically secured their quota place for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games. Valencia noted the intensity of the match, pointing out the high competitive level of the opposition. Vázquez added that locking down the Pan American berth removes early pressure as the team builds toward the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
In the men’s recurve team final, Matías Grande, Raúl Rodríguez, and Francisco Padilla faced a similarly tough challenge from their Colombian counterparts. The Mexican men edged out a 5-3 victory in a tightly contested match. Grande credited the ongoing support from CONADE and preparatory camps in Yucatán and Switzerland for sharpening their competitive edge. Rodríguez highlighted that the squad had already secured its Lima 2027 quota at the Pan American Archery Championship in Tlaxcala, allowing them to approach the Santo Domingo tournament with steady composure.
Training in Mérida Prepares Mexican Archers for Heat
Facing challenging outdoor conditions in Santo Domingo, the Mexican archers relied on recent training blocks to maintain their form. Ruiz emphasized that a specialized training camp in Mérida prepared the team to handle high temperatures and swirling winds. Padilla noted that while the men’s roster has experienced more tactical adjustments than the women’s side, improved unity and communication have translated directly to podium results.
