Mario Marco Marroni, president of the Compagnia Arcieri Barbacane and a central figure in the cultural and sporting life of Città della Pieve, has died at the age of 74 due to a cardiac condition.

FITARCO Officials Mourn a Pillar of Italian Archery

Italian Archery Federation (FITARCO) President Vittorio Polidori issued a statement describing the loss of Marroni as a severe blow to the national governing body. Rivolgo le più sentite condoglianze a nome mio e di tutto il Consiglio Federale ai famigliari di Mario Marroni e a tutti i tesserati della Società, Polidori said, adding, Perdere un dirigente come lui è un duro colpo per la Federazione. Polidori noted that Marroni spent much of his life dedicated to archery, building the Arcieri Barbacane into a flagship society known for organizing major federation events.

FITARCO Umbria President Nicola Montecchi echoed those sentiments. Il Presidente FITARCO Umbria Nicola Montecchi e tutto il Comitato Regionale esprimono le più sentite e sincere condoglianze alla famiglia Marroni, ai soci e agli atleti degli Arcieri Barbacane e a tutti coloro che hanno avuto il privilegio di conoscerlo e di condividere con lui un tratto di strada, stated the regional committee, calling Marroni a fundamental point of reference who instilled the authentic values of sport from grassroots fields to high-level competition.

A Lifelong Legacy in Art, Teaching, and Civic Life

Beyond his work on the archery range, Marroni served as a teacher, artist, and the chief master of ceremonies for local civic events and the Palio. In the 1990s, he collaborated with his father, Antonio, to paint and decorate the Teatro degli Avvaloranti following a thirty-year closure.

Local reports also noted his brief political tenure as a town councillor for the Green party during the same decade, reflecting a broader commitment to environmental protection and territorial preservation.

Upcoming Coppa Italia Keeps Focus on Community

FITARCO officials expressed confidence in the organizational structure he established.

President Polidori confirmed that the Italian Archery Federation remains on schedule to return to Città della Pieve next July for the Coppa Italia delle Regioni. The event will provide the sporting community an opportunity to honor Marroni’s enduring contributions to the discipline.
