Maribel Nadal leads a new tennis and padel club project in Málaga

Maribel Nadal, sister of retired tennis star Rafael Nadal, has taken over leadership of a long-delayed project to build a major tennis and padel club in Málaga, according to reports published by ABC.

Malaga Racquet Club Plan Resurfaces With New Leadership

The business initiative aims to expand the Nadal family’s brand presence outside of professional tennis courts. Maribel Nadal has joined forces with several investors from the real estate and sports sectors to move the development forward after years of administrative and urban planning delays. First discussed in March 2023 with an estimated investment of roughly 30 million euros, the complex initially faced structural roadblocks that slowed its progress.

Shifting Grounds at the Former Málaga Racquet Center

The sports complex has shifted its proposed location to the grounds of the former Málaga racquet center, a site spanning more than 22,000 square meters. Inaugurated in 2015 as one of the largest racket sports facilities in Málaga, the site has remained largely abandoned following the closure of its operations. Planners intend to revitalize the disused property by integrating the branding of the Nadal name, incorporating sports courts, underground parking, and dedicated dining and leisure areas.

Global Expansion of the Nadal Academy Footprint

Maribel Nadal previously visited the Rafa Nadal Academy school in Hong Kong, highlighting the institution’s youth training programs on social media. “Qué bonito ver como niños y niñas locales se forman con la metodología de la @rafanadalacademy y comparten su ilusión por el tenis,” she posted on Instagram, praising the local coaching staff.
