Marcin Komenda answered his critics after Poland’s national men’s volleyball team defeated France 3–1 in the European Championship final in Milan, securing the gold medal. The victory marks the primary setter’s second major international success with the senior squad, following a bronze medal at the world championship the previous year.
Silencing the Doubters After Milan Gold
Sport.fakt.pl reported that the tournament victory served as a direct response to skeptics who questioned Komenda’s capability to lead the national team. Addressing remarks that Poland could not win major titles with him running the offense, the setter maintained that patience yields better results than premature judgments.
“I think it’s always better to wait for what happens than to speak out,” Komenda told the outlet. “We never know how it will turn out. Those who know me know that I work hard and want to develop to get better year after year. It’s cool that I could show that I can play volleyball and I silenced the doubters.”

Embracing Autheticity Over Social Media Spotlight
While teammates like outside hitter Tomasz Fornal attract significant public attention, Komenda prefers to maintain a lower profile. He noted that differing lifestyles dictate how players manage their off-court presence, pointing out that Fornal is single and navigates social media engagement differently.
“I don’t have some kind of urge to shine in social media, so I won’t do something by force,” Komenda said. “I believe that first of all, you have to be authentic. Then everything is as it should be.”
Club Season Outlook in PlusLiga
Transitioning from international success to club competition, Komenda prepares for the upcoming PlusLiga season with Bogdanka LUK Lublin. The roster includes high-profile additions, notably Japanese star Ran Takahashi—who boasts 2.5 million Instagram followers—and libero Tomohiro Ogawa.

“I don’t need to hide in anyone’s shadow,” Komenda said regarding sharing the spotlight with his international club teammates. “If the attention is focused on two Japanese players, because we also have Tomohiro Ogawa, I have nothing against it. It’s great that such players are coming to our league.”
Looking ahead to the domestic league standings, the setter anticipates a highly competitive field, identifying Zawiercie, Projekt Warszawa, Asseco Resovia, and Indykpol AZS Olsztyn among the primary contenders for the podium.
