Linda Noskova advanced to the third round of the China Open in Beijing on Friday, defeating Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-4, 6-1 on the hard courts of the Diamond central court. The sixth-ranked Czech player needed one hour and 19 minutes to close out the match, capitalizing on her recent victory in the Billie Jean King Cup.
First-Set Resilience Breaks Ruse’s Defense
Noskova established an early lead in the opening set, though she required a grueling 14-point game to break Ruse’s serve and push ahead 3-0. Ruse, ranked No. 62, mounted a determined response by claiming three consecutive games, saving a break point to level the score at 4-4 before holding serve at love. The parity broke when Noskova secured her service game and converted her first set point on the return, edging out a tight frame where she tallied just two more total points than her opponent.
Dominant Second Frame Secures Victory
The fifth seed shifted momentum immediately upon the resumption of play, racing to a 4-0 advantage behind a clean service hold and a break at love. Ruse staved off a bagel by erasing two match points in the fifth game, but Noskova weathered a final threat on her serve to seal the contest on her fourth match point. The straight-sets win extends a stellar stretch of hard-court and team success for the Czech star.
BJK Cup Momentum Translates to Beijing
Noskova arrives in the Chinese capital carrying the momentum of leading Czechia to the Billie Jean King Cup title. In that team tournament, Noskova and teammate Karolina Muchova each won their singles matches to sweep Ukraine 2-0 in the final. Noskova clinched the trophy by defeating Elina Svitolina 6-3, 7-6(5), following a campaign that included eliminating Spain in the semifinals and Great Britain in the quarterfinals under captain Barbora Strycova. Those performances built upon a strong individual season for Noskova, who claimed titles earlier this year in Berlin and Wimbledon.
Third-Round Outlook in Beijing
With her victory over Ruse secured, Noskova moves forward in the event to face the winner of the second-round fixture between Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic, ranked No. 67, and 28th-seeded American Peyton Stearns, ranked No. 36.
