Professional badminton player Lee Zii Jia is seeking a High Court injunction in Kuala Lumpur to prevent his father and sister from approving certain financial benefits for themselves or making significant corporate decisions without court permission amid an ongoing dispute over his management company, LZJ Management Sdn Bhd. Court documents sighted by Scoop show that the originating summons was filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on July 2, 2026, under case number WA-24NCC-400-07/2026.
High Court Injunction Application Filed on July 2
The legal filing names LZJ Management, his father Lee Chee Hin, his sister Lee Zii Yii, and his younger brother Lee Tao as respondents. Zii Jia seeks an interim injunction against Chee Hin and Zii Yii, who both serve as directors of the company. The application asks the court to block them from approving directors’ fees, allowances, bonuses, or other financial benefits beyond their monthly salaries while the legal proceedings remain pending. Furthermore, the summons seeks to restrict corporate decisions involving director appointments or removals, the selection of a company secretary, major asset disposals, new share issuances, and alterations to the company’s shareholding structure without prior court approval.
Ownership details outlined in the court papers indicate that Zii Jia holds a 90 per cent stake in LZJ Management Sdn Bhd. His sister Zii Yii, who also manages his professional badminton career, holds a nine per cent stake, while his younger brother Tao owns the remaining one per cent.
Extraordinary General Meeting Deadlock and Proposed Agenda
Alongside the injunction application, Zii Jia is pursuing a court order to convene an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to resolve matters concerning the company’s management and governance. In his supporting affidavit, he stated that an earlier attempt to hold an EGM on December 22 of last year failed because the required quorum was not achieved. The originating summons notes that the meeting failed to be conducted properly and asserts that court intervention has become necessary due to a management and administrative deadlock.
Zii Jia has asked the court to mandate that the EGM be scheduled within 14 days of the order or within another timeframe determined by the judiciary. He also seeks the authority to issue and serve the meeting notice and to appoint an independent chairman. Under the framework proposed in his application, the meeting could proceed despite the absence of certain directors, members, or the company secretary. The proposed agenda lists the potential removal of existing directors, the appointment of new directors and a company secretary, and other corporate matters.
Affidavits Filed by Family Members Disputing Court Intervention
The legal application is contested by the respondents. In an affidavit in reply filed on August 6, Lee Chee Hin disputed the necessity of court intervention, asserting that the company has continued to manage affairs related to his son’s professional badminton career effectively. Chee Hin’s affidavit pointed to LZJ Management’s four-year agreement with sports brand Victor, which covers the period from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2028. He contended that this arrangement and its financial contributions remain vital to company operations and the ongoing support of Zii Jia’s athletic career. Chee Hin’s affidavit also addressed disputes regarding payments and the commercial use of Zii Jia’s name and image. A separate joint affidavit filed on behalf of Zii Yii and Lee Tao similarly challenged the allegations and the relief sought by the player.
Recent On-Court Performance at the Arctic Open
Amid the ongoing legal proceedings, Zii Jia returned to competitive action on the international circuit, reaching the men’s singles semi-finals at the Arctic Open in Vantaa, Finland. During the tournament, he defeated France’s second-seeded Christo Popov 21-11, 21-16 in the quarter-finals before exiting in the semi-finals against Denmark’s Anders Antonsen. The tournament run provides a measure of competitive momentum as he pursues a return to the world’s top 50 rankings.
Pending Court Consideration and Unresolved Legal Questions
The injunction application, the competing affidavits filed by Chee Hin, Zii Yii, and Tao, and the requests regarding the extraordinary general meeting remain subject to the consideration of the Kuala Lumpur High Court. As the case proceeds, no final judicial determinations have been issued regarding the management deadlock or the requested corporate restrictions.
