Malaysian badminton star Lee Zii Jia filed an application at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur on July 2 seeking an injunction against his father and sister over the control and financial decisions of his management company, LZJ Management, badzine.de reported.
The legal dispute thrusts the former top player’s family dynamics into the public spotlight away from the competitive court. Named as respondents in the High Court filing are his father, Lee Chee Hin, and his sister, Lee Zii Yii, both of whom serve as directors of LZJ Management. The company itself and Lee’s younger brother, Lee Tao, are also listed as respondents in the legal action.
Injunction Seeks to Block Family Financial Control
Lee Zii Jia is attempting to halt specific financial decisions within LZJ Management by his father and sister. According to the court application reported by badzine.de, the restrictions target director fees, allowances, bonuses, and additional financial benefits that extend beyond their standard monthly salaries.
Beyond compensation matters, the badminton player aims to secure judicial oversight for critical strategic decisions. The requested controls would prevent the appointment or removal of directors, the selection of a company secretary, the sale of major assets, and the issuance of new shares without explicit court approval. Modifications to the ownership structure of the firm are also central to the legal challenge.
Shareholder Breakdown and Extraordinary General Meeting Demands
Lee maintains a 90 percent ownership stake in LZJ Management, according to his own filings. His sister reportedly holds a nine percent share, while his younger brother retains the remaining one percent.
As part of the High Court filing, Lee has demanded the convening of an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to re-evaluate the company’s leadership and corporate structure. A previous attempt to hold such a meeting on December 22 fell through because it failed to achieve the necessary quorum, as noted in the filings. Lee’s current legal petition asks the court to order a new EGM within 14 days of an official ruling, or within a timeframe set directly by the court.
Father Files Affidavit in Opposition
The legal challenge faces immediate pushback from the respondents. Lee Chee Hin submitted an affidavit on August 6 opposing his son’s injunction request and arguing against judicial intervention in the company’s operations.
According to the filed response, the father maintains that LZJ Management continues to properly manage affairs surrounding Lee Zii Jia’s professional badminton career. The opposing stance highlights a fundamental disagreement not just over corporate governance, but over who holds ultimate authority and control over the management apparatus supporting the player’s career.
Outstanding Questions in the High Court Proceedings
The High Court has not yet announced a definitive date for a final decision on Lee Zii Jia’s application or the scheduling of the demanded extraordinary general meeting.
Lee Chee Hin submitted an affidavit on August 6 contesting the claims, while formal public responses from Lee Zii Yii and Lee Tao regarding the specific operational disputes remain unverified by court records.
