La Ville fait avancer le projet de nouveau complexe de terrains de balle – Fredericton.ca

The city of Fredericton is moving forward with plans to develop a new ball field complex in Killarney Lake Park. The project aims to address the growing needs of local sports associations and users, while also enhancing Fredericton’s appeal as a sports tourism destination.

The proposed complex would feature eight ball fields and two multi-purpose sports fields, designed to accommodate the city’s baseball and softball clubs, as well as soccer, football, and other recreational activities. The municipal services presented preliminary plans and technical studies to elected officials during a meeting of the Habitable Community Committee on October 15, 2026.

"The growth of our city requires thoughtful planning that anticipates needs, so we can continue to offer places for people of all ages to engage in sports and leisure activities," said Councilor Kelly Murray, chair of the Habitable Community Committee. "The number of participants in sports like baseball is increasing. We want to ensure that residents have facilities that meet their needs for years to come."

Fredericton sustainable community plan

The evaluation of future ball field needs began in 2020, and the site was selected in 2024. Initial design studies were conducted in early 2025 and will continue in the coming months with the development of detailed technical plans. This initiative aligns with the city’s 2025 Leisure Master Plan, which recommends the development of several new outdoor facilities to meet the needs of a growing and diversified population.

The costs and timeline for the project are expected to be established by the end of 2026, with construction slated to begin in 2027. The investment will provide new recreational spaces for young people and adults to support the growth of baseball in Fredericton.
