Playing in his first contest since suffering a severe torn ACL in early March against the Sacramento Kings, the 34-year-old guard shot 6-of-13 from the field and added 3 assists. Operating with his customary offensive rhythm, Irving topped the Mavericks’ scoring sheet in an efficient outing that featured several difficult jump shots. Dallas built its performance around the veteran’s dynamic return, securing a comfortable 17-point margin at the final buzzer.
Flagg Struggles While Risacher Shines for Dallas
Cooper Flagg experienced a difficult shooting night, converting just 3 of 10 field goal attempts, including 1-of-4 from beyond the arc. Despite finishing with 14 points, the rookie impacted the game through distribution and rebounding, recording seven assists and four boards. Zaccharie Risacher provided an immediate offensive spark. Acquired by Dallas from the Atlanta Hawks via a trade, the former first overall pick contributed 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting, though he converted only two of six three-point attempts following a strong performance in Friday’s opening meeting between the two franchises.
Rockets Rest Star Trio and Rely on Marcus Smart
Unlike their 135-117 defeat on Friday, the Rockets rested their top three players, keeping Kevin Durant, Alperen Sengün, and Fred VanVleet out of the lineup. Houston nevertheless mounted a challenge after falling behind by 15 points, hoisting 46 three-pointers and converting 14 of them. Reed Sheppard accounted for four of those perimeter makes, while Marcus Smart led the Rockets with 20 points.

Travel Plans and Regular Season Rematch Schedule
Both teams will travel back to the United States to complete their remaining preseason fixtures. The Mavericks and Rockets will then face each other again on October 22 to open the 2024-25 regular season.
