The women’s judo team of KSC ASAHI Spremberg has secured the Brandenburg state championship title for the first time in the club’s history.
A Perfect Landesliga Campaign
Competing in what the club describes as likely the youngest roster in the league, the KSC ASAHI women’s team maintained a perfect record throughout the season. By winning every encounter on the mat, the team completed their league schedule without a single point loss, securing the title decisively.
“The expectations were certainly high and the pressure from outside as well, all the more pleasing is the result,” said team captain Luisa Engelkind. The championship roster included Lydia Böhm, Zoe Meyer, Sophie Jäger, Luisa Engelkind, Sophie von Zelewski, Josephine Richter, Lucie Fiedler, Alina Völke, and Jasmin Neuhold. Among the contributors, Lucie Fiedler arrived with recent international momentum, having secured two bronze medals at the Sumo European Championships in Warsaw this past September.
Second Men’s Team Narrowly Misses Title
While the women’s team celebrated a historic victory, the KSC ASAHI second men’s team finished as runners-up in a historically tight Landesliga race. The title was decided by the narrowest margin in the league’s history, with the defending champions, a combined team from RSV Eintracht and PSV Frankfurt (Oder), totaling 42 individual match wins to Spremberg’s 41.
Spremberg’s men’s squad finished the season with only one defeat across ten encounters. Despite securing a 5-0 victory against Lauchhammer and a 4-1 win over the series champions from Frankfurt (Oder), the team conceded points in 4-1 results against HSV Cottbus and the Judoschule Falkensee. Those individual match losses ultimately proved to be the difference in the final standings.
“We had agreed at the beginning of the season that everyone on the team would get their chance, and we followed through with that,” said team spokesperson Florian Kadach. “So, in the end, we are the winners of the hearts.”
Club Depth and Future Outlook
The second men’s team utilized 16 different fighters throughout the season, the highest rotation of any team in the league. Coach Dirk Meyer noted that the performance reflects the club’s overall development, adding that the team was satisfied with the runner-up result. The roster for the second team featured Elron Brettschneider, Leandro Schütze, Pascal Hentschel, Sebastian Friehmann, Abdurazok Kurbonov, Cody Neumann, Konstantin Hertel, Darien Hertel, Justin Willsch, Ludwig Schulze, Florian Kadach, Phumpanya Mazur, Mathias Völker, Fabian Glowastka, Nick Meyer, and Tim Siebert.
The club’s primary men’s team, which competes in the Bundesliga, concluded its own season in September with a third-place finish.
