Khel Mahakumbh 2023: Jagadhri District-Level Trials Begin for State-Level Sports Competitions

Yamuna Nagar district has launched its three-day district-level sports trials to select athletes for the upcoming state-level Khel Mahakumbh competitions, with 1,500 competitors registered across 30 distinct sporting disciplines, Amarujala reported.

District Sports Trials Begin at TeJli Sports Complex

Led by District Sports Officer Shilpa गुप्ता, the selection process opened Monday with events drawing more than 500 competitors on the first day alone. The trials are designed to evaluate local talent across a broad spectrum of athletic disciplines to form the official district delegation for the state tournament.

Monday’s opening schedule at the Tejli Sports Complex in Jagadhri featured six core events: archery, athletics, basketball, cycling, throwball, and men’s hockey. Simultaneously, venue adjustments brought regional competitors to local educational facilities. Second Heart Convent School hosted baseball events, Saraswati Public School managed karate and table tennis brackets, and Sant Nishchal Singh Public School hosted swimming heats.

Daily Discipline Schedule Through October 14

The three-day schedule distributes the 30 athletic disciplines across multiple facilities, maintaining a rotation of roughly ten sports per day. Competitors are evaluated based on raw performance, technical skill, and competitive stamina under the direct supervision of district athletic officials.

Selection trials continue Tuesday and Wednesday with specific venues designated for remaining categories. District sports authorities confirmed that events scheduled for Tuesday, October 13, at the Tejli Sports Complex will include badminton, boxing, fencing, football, women’s hockey, lawn tennis, wrestling, kabaddi, weightlifting, and gymnastics. Saraswati Public School will host shooting selections on the same day.

The final day of competition on Wednesday, October 14, moves indoor and outdoor team sports back to the Tejli Sports Complex, featuring handball, taekwondo, cricket, kho-kho, volleyball, judo, rowing, and canoeing. Additional trials for netball and volleyball will take place at Government Senior Secondary School, Talaur.

Mandatory Documentation and Eligibility Rules

District sports officials enforce strict credential verification for all participants entering the selection arena. Athletes reporting to the venues must present proof of residence, Aadhaar cards, birth certificates, and family identification documents.

Competitors arriving from outside districts are required to submit valid bonafide certificates alongside standard identification paperwork before stepping onto the field or court. These administrative checks ensure all participants meet the regional eligibility requirements mandated by the state sports department ahead of the broader Khel Mahakumbh tournament.
