The 32nd edition of the Torneo de Baloncesto Superior de Espaillat (BSE 2026) opens this Wednesday, October 7, with a special dedication to Sports Minister Kelvin Cruz at the Dr. Rubén Lulo Gitte indoor arena in Moca, Dominican Republic.
Infrastructure Investment and Government Funding in Espaillat
The traditional basketball championship features teams competing for the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic Cup. Organizing committee president Enmanuel Bautista highlighted that Cruz’s contributions to sports and the Espaillat province were decisive in honoring him this season.
Bautista detailed that sports infrastructure projects executed across the province represent an investment exceeding 415 million Dominican pesos. The funding forms part of President Luis Abinader’s initiative to upgrade sports facilities for elite competition and public recreation across the municipalities of Moca, Gaspar Hernández, San Víctor, and Veragua.

A primary feature of the BSE 2026 tournament is the unveiling of a modern hardwood court at the historic Dr. Rubén Lulo Gitte indoor facility. The playing surface features specifications modeled after international high-performance sporting venues, marking a significant upgrade for regional athletic events.
La Cancha and San Sebastián Open the Basketball League
Opening night action begins at 7:00 p.m. local time on Wednesday with a matchup between La Cancha and José Horacio Rodríguez. The second game follows at 9:00 p.m. featuring San Sebastián against Don Bosco.
Televiaducto SRL will manage tournament broadcasting, transmitting games through Channel 58 and YouTube to expand the reach of the Espaillat basketball league to domestic and international viewers.
