The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) league drew a total of 12.77 million spectators across 720 regular-season games this year, placing seventh in attendance among professional sports leagues worldwide according to data released on October 18 by the statistical media outlet Flow.
That total pushes the South Korean professional baseball circuit past the German Bundesliga, which recorded 12.69 million attendees, anchoring the KBO firmly in global attendance rankings. The compilation benchmarks Major League Baseball (MLB) figures from 2025 and soccer leagues from the 2025–2026 season.
Global Professional League Attendance Rankings
Major League Baseball led the worldwide attendance table by a wide margin. Across 2,430 games, MLB drew 71.41 million total fans, averaging 29,387 spectators per contest. Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) secured the second spot with 27.18 million fans across 858 games.
The subsequent positions in the global top six belong to North American and European winter and autumn competitions. The National Hockey League (NHL) brought in 23.16 million spectators, the National Basketball Association (NBA) recorded 22.27 million, the National Football League (NFL) registered 18.78 million, and the English Premier League (EPL) attracted 15.82 million fans.
Behind the KBO league’s seventh-place finish, several prominent European soccer divisions also populated the upper tier of attendance metrics. The German Bundesliga placed eighth with 12.69 million fans in 306 matches, the English Football League Championship recorded 12.39 million across 552 games, and Spain’s La Liga brought in 11.76 million attendees through 380 fixtures.
Domestic Club Momentum and Average Attendance Dynamics
While the KBO outperformed several major European soccer leagues in total cumulative attendance, the circuit landed ninth among the top ten global leagues in per-game average attendance. The heavy volume of fixtures—720 total games split across 10 franchises—bolstered the aggregate count.
Fan demand remained exceptionally broad across the domestic market this season. Eight of the ten KBO clubs—specifically KT Wiz, Samsung Lions, Kia Tigers, LG Twins, Doosan Bears, SSG Landers, Lotte Giants, and Hanwha Eagles—surpassed the one-million attendance mark.
Stadium capacity constraints continue to influence per-game averages. However, industry projections indicate that the completion of the planned 30,000-seat Jamsil Dome, slated to open in 2032, could pave the way for a sustained league-wide average of 20,000 fans per game.
Postseason Action and Upcoming Schedule
On-field competition concurrently shifted to the postseason stage. On October 18, the Kia Tigers and the LG Twins contested the second game of the KBO postseason semi-playoffs at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field, drawing packed crowds as the autumn schedule unfolded.
League officials and clubs will continue monitoring attendance benchmarks as the postseason series progress toward the Korean Series championship.
